Telekinesis? Because apparently it's an unsolved mystery. No names need to be given, however extremely helpful. Knowing that you all are out there supporting me is very comforting. I appreciate your taking the time to read my story and if you have anything to add that may help me in any way I would be forever greatful. If you are here because you just want to vent about something that has happened to you that you honestly feel you were wrongfully accused of, or humiliated over, or suspended from work because of, this is the place to vent.
I would like to thank you all in advance, the ones who know that this is completely out of character for me. That this is in no way something I would ever do. That it is a travesty that citizens like myself, a single, hardworking parent has been made out to be a criminal or should I say "Bandit"?

I am a co-worker and have heard her story for almost 2 weeks about renovations of bedrooms, fixing up the girls bedroom for both of them, cleaning out and throwing away so they would both have room. Also how wonderful that her mom had bought new bedding and decor for the girls and boys rooms so they would all be happy about their new rooms. In knowing the individual that is accused of stealing from charity...I can not even imagine she would EVER do something like that. I doubt that she has ever had a speeding ticket. Numerous of times she has brought in things for me to give to my sister, who needs charity..MATTER OF FACT...I also have dropped items off at the local charity when they are closed...my trunk was full...and I left it at their back door...with numerous other folks doing the same. When you are donating to help people...you have to take it at your convenience, not always at theirs. This whole story is completely ridiculous...I'm sure there is someone else out there that dropped items off that same day she did and know that gate was unlocked. Please speak up...what do you have to lose..It would be the RIGHT thing to do. Thank You!
I would like to say how awfully sorry I am for your troubles. On that Sunday of September 30th, my wife and I had taken a few things to the drop off area located behind the Salvation Army and the gate was open at that time. As we were leaving we witnessed you and the young man pulling the mattress from your van. Any other time I probably would not have noticed or remembered such a thing but when we heard your story on the evening news we knew it was on the same day that we, ourselves, had been there. I attempted to call into WVEC, however when I asked to remain anonymous, I was told that they would be unable to quote me. My wife and I have donated many things to this particular Salvation Army and not once when we have been there has that gate either been closed or locked. We pray that your troubles will be over soon.

I too have made donations to charities after hours. Let's face it, we are all busy and sometimes the times you have available for clearing things out of the house do not coincide with the hours of operation of your local charity. It is dissapointing that this story was all over the news for thousands to see, but that these explanations will not be seen by as many. I wish you luck in court.
Anyone who knows Wendy believes that she would never break into any building nevertheless a charity. I have been a close friend with her for years and this is very uncharacteristic for her. I hope this can be sorted out and the truth prevail!

On Sunday morning of September 23rd, 2007, my daughter, Wendy, called and asked if I would come and assist her in rearranging all three bedrooms in her home. My husband and myself drove over and spent about four hours assisting in the task. At that time, Wendy and I discussed getting rid of all toys, clothing and old furniture that was no longer being used. I encouraged Wendy and the children to do so in order to make the rooms more spacious and neater to maintain. On Thursday, September 27th, 2007, my husband and I purchased a single mattress and box springs set for my granddaughter Bailey's birthday at the Sam's Club on Virginia Beach Blvd. and took them over to my daughter's that evening. At that time, Wendy told me that she was rounding up things to get rid of.
On Sunday morning of September 30th, 2007, I called my daughter and in the course of conversation, I asked what she was up to and she told me that she had gotten up very early and was gathering up bags of clothes and some other items, including the one piece of the old mattress/box springs set and an old chest, among other things to take up to the Salvation Army. I have enclosed a copy of the receipt from the Sam's Club Store showing the purchase of the mattress set.

I have known Wendy Shumaker for 34 years and am astounded by the accusations. I stand behind the comments made regarding her character by the other individuals. There is absolutely no chance that she would steal from a charity. After all, she was employed by St. Marys Childrens' Home for 10 years and accepted charity for the organization. She has been unfairly victimized and should be compensated for the time and money outlaid to defend herself. Thank you.
I am a friend and former neighbor. I have known this individual for 12 years and was in shock when I heard this story on the evening news. This is something I never would have imagined her ever doing, it's not her character. As a friend we had talked over the weeks and I had heard about the cleaning of the garage, attic, kids room etc. and knew of her intentions on donating the items to charity. I know this person to be a hard working mother who is trustworthy and has given her time to numerous fund raising and charity events that have helped many people. This is ridiculous!! I mean crazy insane!!!! Can you sue that guy from the news?? You should be able to sue someone. I can't believe he was allowed to air that about you without your permission or at least your side of the story first. Everyone knows how much you have done for local charities. All the stuff you have donated to them and they go and accuse you of stealing. That blows my mind. No doubt I will back you up 100%.

I feel sorry for what you had to go thru..i seen it on the news. That's what happens when we live in a society full of retards?? I had 3 truck loads to donate to a place on va bch blvd..all I wanted was some help unloading..too lazy to come out and help me so I took the stuff back home and put it out for the trashman..there was actually some valueable furniture , books, antiques and crap from 50 years build up in the house I bought..at least you have a good story now for the grandkids someday!
I have known Wendy and her parents for over 20 years. Her parents have always treated me like a daughter and are grandparents to my son. They did not raise a thief. To see the newspaper article was terrible. To see Wendys face plastered on the television was horrible. Wendy has donated to many local charities and would help any stranger that came along. She is a loyal, giving, trusting friend who is getting a bad deal. There has to be some justice here. Wendys friends need to give her their support because she really needs it. I hope the truth comes out and justice prevails. This is a very awful situation that needs some resolution so she can get on with her life with her family. We are all here for you Wendy.

I wouldn't believe in a million years that you would intentionally try to bring other people's discards into your home, when your constant goal is to get rid of the clutter that always invades our homes. Not only that, but it would be impossible for me to envision you stealing from a charity!

I have know Wendy for about 13 years. There is no way the Wendy I know would ever steal from the Salvation Army. She comes from a wonderful family.
